Tata Power Solaroof Brings ‘Ghar Ghar Solar’ to Kolkata with Zero Upfront Installation Cost

Kolkata:  Tata Power Solaroof, a part of Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited (TPREL) and a subsidiary of Tata Power Company, has brought its widely successful ‘Ghar Ghar Solar’ initiative to Kolkata, enabling households across urban, semi-urban and rural West Bengal to adopt rooftop solar through integrated clean energy solutions, supported by easy financing options and energy management solutions.

As Kolkata prepares for Durga Puja, a festival that symbolizes new beginnings and prosperity, the ‘Ghar Ghar Solar’ initiative comes at a time when households are increasingly seeking smarter, more sustainable and cost-effective ways to meet their energy needs. By combining rooftop solar solutions, government incentives and convenient financing offerings, Tata Power Solaroof is making the transition to clean energy simpler and more affordable, while empowering households to generate and manage their own electricity.

Against the backdrop of rising energy demand driven by West Bengal’s growing residential, commercial and industrial activity, Tata Power Solaroof plans to facilitate rooftop solar adoption across 3 lakh homes in the state over the next three years. The company will offer rooftop solar solutions ranging from 1 kW to 10 kW, catering to diverse household energy requirements and helping consumers lower electricity expenses while contributing to a cleaner and more sustainable future.

Eligible residential consumers can also avail benefits under the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, including central financial assistance of ₹30,000 for 1 kW systems, ₹60,000 for 2 kW systems and up to ₹78,000 for systems of 3 kW and above, subject to applicable guidelines and terms and conditions.

To further address the upfront cost of adoption, Tata Power has introduced a special financing proposition in partnership with Aerem for customers in West Bengal. The proposition offers zero upfront investment, affordable EMIs and flexible repayment options, along with solar insurance coverage.

The financing structure across key rooftop solar capacities is outlined below:

The offering extends beyond rooftop solar to include advanced battery energy storage solutions, enabling consumers to store surplus solar power and use it when needed, enhancing energy independence and reliability. For residential consumers, Tata Power’s battery storage solutions range from 5 kWh to 40 kWh, while for Commercial & Industrial consumers, the PowerHub portfolio spans 60 kWh to 5 MWh, supporting renewable energy integration, optimized energy management and improved power resilience.

The initiative also features ‘Mera Gaon, Mera Solar’, a community-focused programme aimed at accelerating rooftop solar adoption across rural and semi-urban West Bengal. Through awareness, outreach and local engagement, the programme will encourage collective participation in the clean energy transition while highlighting the economic, environmental and energy security benefits of distributed solar.

Speaking on the launch, Dr. Praveer Sinha, CEO & MD, Tata Power, said “On the auspicious occasion of Durga Puja, Tata Power is delighted to launch its ‘GharGhar Solar’ campaign in West Bengal, making clean energy more accessible through rooftop solar solutions and easy financing options. We encourage households to avail the benefits of the ‘PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana’ to make solar adoption even more affordable. Through this initiative, we aim to empower consumers with greater control over how they generate and use electricity while reducing their energy costs and carbon footprint. Our planned expansion across 3 lakh homes in West Bengal over the next three years will help accelerate the State’s clean energy transition and support India’s sustainability goals.”
